CD REVIEW Feel the pain baby. The blues is an attitude, a remedy of sorts for what ails. And if there is anyone who can sing it for the cure, enter Linda Bracamonte. Bracamonte's CD "I Know the Difference Between a Sad Song and the Blues", is a collection of songs written by Ema Roberts, songwriting partner/lead guitarist, and Bracamonte herself, over a two-year period (2005-2007) that stirs up the senses and paves the way, leaving behind any emotional barriers to capture the essence of pure soul, through the heart, and full circle to new beginnings. "Checkin' Out" pins it down to a gut feeling, an escape from the mundane and into the wild blues side of life. Written by Ema Roberts, the song describes taking hold and letting go, never to forget the feelings that emerge - embrace the pain, feel the burn. The tempo slows down to the tune of "I Know the Difference (between a sad song and the blues)", the title song for the CD and a collaborative effort on the composing side for Roberts and Bracamonte in 2007. Bracamonte wails of the pain in and out of love as if she were performing side by side with the legendary Billie Holiday. The Linda Bracamonte band is comprised of talent through and through. Lance Davis is on bass, John Swanson, drums, Matthew Kaiser on keyboards, Ema Roberts, lead guitar. And the singer with the tiny frame and larger than life vocals - California born and raised, Bracamonte reserves the right to hit the high notes with passion and natural ease, a job she does quite well. This CD covers all facets of love's habitat, and has a nice balance to set the pace, whether that pace is on the slow-mo side of life or in the fast lane to a speedy recovery of twists and turns throughout the blues. This album reaches for the soul fired up, and is taken to levels that exceed any expectations of California's all naturally grown. CD REVIEW Sacramento chanteuse Bracamonte, dresses her blues in contemporary country on her debut album, with top-shelf accompaniment from guitarist/songwriter, Ema Roberts, who cowrote the ten original songs. Linda's voice can be spirited, as in the energetic opener, "Saved My Life" and rocker "Do You Want to Funk", or velvety and warm on the ballad, "Coming Home" and the bluesy torch-song title track. While country-rock songs like, "I'm On It" and "You Don't Know What It's Like (on the back of my bike)”, might conjure up a strong Nashville influence, Linda is known to put a lot of blues feeling into her frequent live performances in the region. Roberts’ fluid and precision guitar work, shows throughout the album and should bring him the attention of serious guitar aficionados. If her first effort is any indication, Bracamonte can look forward to joining the ranks of essential Sacramento music artists who establish a global presence. CD REVIEW This is a dynamic new CD, from the lyrics to the get up and dance instrumentals! Linda Bracamonte's powerful voice is enough to send the musical messages down to your soul. I definitely give this CD 5 Stars and look forward to their next CD! BO ELY CD INTERVIEWS |
